"Apart from recruiting, the U.S. Naval Academy uses SUMOTEXT to organize personnel. For example, during summer training exercises in San Diego, all 800 midshipmen opted-in to the unit's keyword. In one instance, a Nuclear Guided Missile Submarine had a last minute schedule change to pull into the harbor early to pick up 40 midshipmen. The midshipmen, who were on an authorized afternoon break, were all over the base idly waiting for the appointed hour. By sending one field alert from my phone using SUMOTEXT, all 40 midshipmen showed up within 10 minutes and were able to get onto the transfer boat at the revised departure time. This saved the Navy and the tax payer thousands of dollars."
